Good Morning!

I find myself in the land of the Ruby! The finest queen of the dog scene. I’m back in Victoria and it feels great!
I made it to Kate’s birthday last night at the Ragtime tavern, a quirky little piano bar in Preston/Ressa. I got to catch up with so many friends from over the years, having known Kate for so long. Plus there were many friends of friends who know about all my escapades up north and what I’m doing, it was nice that they still have some kind of connection and we don’t have to start a convo with ‘sooooo, what’s been happening….?’ Yahnowaaiiimeeannn….
All these people are musicians or songwriters and one half of the folk duo the Apple Johns-Brett has just flown back from a holiday in Europe, so we’re flicking through photo’s and talking about that, amazing structures, beautiful landscapes and he caught up with some distant relatives.
Brett’s got this quiet confidence and aura about him and in his measured and cautious way he began to tell me about his father, he said my Dad grew up in an orphanage, and paused for the exact amount of time it took to really absorb and take the emotion of that in. Then he continued, said that he then was adopted and was treated really poorly by the host family, ya know bastard child and all that, he explained. He said that his old man searched his entire life for his family, not just for his parents but any relatives what so ever and eventually, he passed away.
At this time facebook was becoming popular and sure enough, Brett’s cousins were able to reach out and find the family only a short time after his death. We just sat there in that feeling of what could’ve been for a moment and he told me all about what it was like to meet his cousins.
And we talked about John Prine after that, he’s a huge Priney fan.
Happy birthday Kate, thanks for a cool party ! Very low key but awesome and enjoy Oasis this week (she bought tickets for two nights)
